GOFRE , Arab St

20131027_205838

Went out last night to catch up with my bestfriend. Initially, I wanted to go for some chill out session at Arab Street but it’s too crowded. Well, it’s a Sunday night, I was kind of expected it. We had dinner at Bugis Junction before we head to Arab Street. We went around Arab Street looking for less crowded cafe. After walking for about 20 minutes, we found an Ice Cream shop called Gofre. It was located next to a big road. It’s not a shop, more like a kiosk. But they have two tables with two chairs each. I think it’s a good place for you to chill with your friends and enjoy the breeze. Don’t bring the whole kampong because they don’t have enough seats ! 1381599_582545268448632_892221260_n20131027_211041

They are having Halloween special flavours. I ordered a set of ‘Frankenstein Ice Cream ( Chocolate & Mint flavour ) with waffle and a honey lemon. It was suppose to be soda but their machine is out of order so they replaced it with Honey Lemon. The whole set cost me around $8.90
20131027_211104Kenny ordered the same thing but he opt out for cup instead of waffles. He ordered two scoops of ‘Frankenstein and I think it cost him $5.80 ( $2.90 per scoop ) if Im not wrong. The Ice Cream is nice but I think I was too engrossed with the conversation so I forget how it really taste ! Hahaha ! The waffle is not like a normal crispy waffle but it’s nice ! It’s a Pandan waffle if I’m not wrong. Other than ‘Frankenstein flavour, they also have other flavour but it’s quite limited. They have around 6 to 8 flavours for us too choose.

GOFRE, the newly minted take-away ice cream & waffles parlour located in the modest spot opposite Golden Landmark Tower. It is the place to hit with homemade buttery crisp waffles topped with scoops of smooth creamy textured ice cream in assorted flavours. Personalise your own ice cream with choices of chocolate sauce, marshmallows, fruits, nuts or chocolate rice.

For coffee fanatics, savour a cup of robust and freshly brewed espresso or cappuccino blended from imported Arabica coffee beans by our cheerful and friendly barista. Crushed ice sodas, ice latte or frappe are also available on the menu to soothe your fiery thirst. Available in lip smacking fruity flavors.

It’s a nice place to chill especially at night because of the breeze and most of the shop is closed so it’s kinda peaceful. It’s halal certified too !

Went out today and didn’t know what to get for lunch. Not a fan of fast food but I decided to have KFC today because I saw something new on the menu. Chocolate Lovers’ Cake ! It was introduced last month if I’m not wrong, I’m a bit slow.

1377589_556315307756803_767238116_n

It cost me only $2 ! The size is not as big as normal Lava cake but just right for the price of 2 bucks. They should put more melted chocolate inside but it’s okay since the chocolate cake itself is nice especially when you eat it warm !
1395821_562620950459572_1620371285_nSince I’m in the KFC, I tried their new fries! Again, not a fan of fried food but their fries is super nice ! I dislike KFC fries because it’s so soggy but their new fries is irresistible! It’s so crispy and tasty ! It’s not oily too compare to other fast food’s fries. It taste so much better with cheese ! Trust me , you guys should try it even if you are not a fast food fan.

October ..

20131018_134316

Yesterday was a worst day of my life. I don’t feel like blogging but I need to do something to distract myself so I won’t be thinking about what happened yesterday morning. To make the matter worst, dad involved in an accident at Orchard. His third accident in 2013. Luckily this time round, people banged his car instead of him banging others.

The damage is not as bad as the other car. Thank god my dad is alright.

20131017_175333

So today, I went to Mustapha Centre to accompany my friends. After shopping, we wanted to go to a cafe since we are not hungry to have an early dinner. We walked around Jalan Besar looking for cafes. The weather is not on our side, it’s freaking hot ! After walking for about 10 minutes, we finally found a cafe called Butter Studio. So we decided to have a tea break there.

20131017_161324

Looking at the menu, I think the food and beverages over there is quite affordable. Not cheap but not expensive too.

20131017_161032 20131017_161127

They have variety of choice of cupcakes. We didn’t buy any cupcakes because we are not fan of cupcakes. If you’re a fan of cupcakes, I think you should try theirs ! I saw quite a number of customers bought their cupcakes.

20131017_161117Panda cupcakes ! I find this super cute loh !

20131017_162901

20131017_162155Yong Jie bought this Belgian Chocolate Tart and he said it’s delicious ! Cost him $5.90 for this.

20131017_162210

Xin Een and I tried their Macaroons . Not bad, $2.20 each . They have five flavours if I’m not wrong.

20131017_162138

Yong Jie also bought banana cake. Taste like an ordinary banana cake. Cost him around $2.50 per slice. We also bought a pot of Organic Hot Vanilla Mint Tea which cost us $6 per pot which you can refill as much as you want until no taste haha . I’m not a tea fan so I don’t really like it. Yong Jie & Xin Een is a fan of teas and they love it so much ! It’s a must to try, according to them la. Haha ! Lucky I ordered my Lemonade which cost me $4. They have free flow of water too.

20131017_162218

7 Things not to do after Meals

Here are some interesting facts that I got online. I think it’s useful for my readers.

  • Smoking After Meals

Not only after meals but smoking’s bad even in the mornings and afternoons; before meals, in the office and after work. In short, smoking is bad for you! A cigarette contains as many as 60 carcinogens (elements that cause cancer) along with other sickening ingredients like nicotine, tar etc. Along with emphysema (a lung disease that causes shortness of breath) and cancer there are other risks involved with smoking but there is no direct evidence to ascertain the effect of ‘after-meals- smoking’ on your health.

However, smoking is known to worsen symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS as well as ulcerative colitis (a stomach ulcer). Smoking also has a bad effect on muscles of the colon.

  •  Eating fruits immediately after meals

Eating fruits is recommended by almost everyone. But among all those who tell you to eat fruits, few speak about the right time to eat them. Fruits actually are the easiest to digest; they contain simple sugars. Most fruits except bananas and dates pass through the stomach into the intestine within 20 minutes of eating. It is in the intestines that they are broken down.

When you eat your fruits with meals, the fruit is stuck in the stomach along with the contents of the meals and cannot reach the intestines in time. Lying there they get spoilt and spoil the remaining food in the stomach too. Thus it is recommended that you eat a fruit not sooner than one hour after eating a meal or before your meal and preferably in the morning on an empty stomach. It is in the morning that the body can best use the nutrients in the fruit and get the energy to start the day.

  • Drinking Tea after meals

Drinking moderate quantities of tea and coffee has its benefits ranging from reducing the risk for cardiovascular disease to putting off diabetes and providing anti-oxidants that will help your body fight aging. However, drinking tea and coffee after meals is not recommended by most nutritionists.

Tea leaves contain a high content of acid. This substance will cause the protein intake from the food we consume to be hardened and thus difficult to digest.

  • Bathing after meals

It will cause the increase of blood flow to the hands, legs & body thus the amount of blood around the stomach will therefore decrease. This will weaken the digestive system in our stomach.

  • Loosening the belt after meals

We generally have an attitude that a good meal is that which forces us to loosen our belts. However, loosening the belt is bad, not because it causes the intestines to twist or block but because it means that you have over eaten to a level that you are uncomfortable with the belt becoming a noose. Loosening of the belt may also cause you to feel comfortable once again which means you may continue overeating.

Loosening your belt is basically relaxing your abdominal muscles which means having a bulging belly in the long run. Instead if you tuck in your stomach, you contract your abdominal muscles and are training them to be taut and firm. So eat only to the extent that you can be comfortable without loosening your belt!

  • Walking immediately after meals

Walking immediately after meals is a bad idea, it can result in acid reflux and indigestion. However, walking about half an hour after meals is known to be good for you. Researchers in the Department of Exercise Science at the University of South Carolina have found that walking post some rest after meals is a good way to burn energy.

The point to note is when to walk, you should ideally walk for about 10 minutes and only 20-30 minutes after meal to prevent acid reflux and stomach upsets.

A good leisurely walk after meals helps set the metabolism to a good level, gives your muscles a stretch and is a better option than promoting fat deposition by lying on the sofa watching TV. Mayo Sleep Clinic even states that walking post some rest after meals help you sleep faster and deeper.

  • Sleeping after meals

Sleeping directly after eating is bad for you because as you lie down, some amount of digestive juices from the stomach flow back to the food pipe due to the gravitational force and due to its acidic nature, burn the inner layer of the food pipe. Thus people have a burning sensation in the mouth and throat post lying down directly after a meal. Another reason to avoid sleeping directly after meals is that, when we sleep directly after we eat, there is excessive pressure put on the diaphragm because of the food that is still in the stomach this causes snoring and even sleep apnea (momentary suspension of breathing that may disrupt our sleep routine). Sleeping directly after meals also has a link with obesity so sleep only after 2 hours post your meals.

So after meals do what you love- sit around with your family and have conversations…this will definitely be good for health!

Like I said, I have been spending my night watching movie during my school holiday because my body clock screwed up. Unleashed is a 2005 movie. I can say Jet Li acting is very good & natural ! I’m actually quite impressed with his acting.  Interesting story line, something unique. I can’t say much about the movie or else there is no suspense.
